As I prepare for my exhibition with Crimson Rose at the Sierra Arts Gallery next month, I will be including my Bouquets Ablaze series. This series began when Crimson used to bring me a bouquet of flowers to the photography studio on her way home from work. To honor this gesture, I wanted to take photographs of them so that their beauty would last longer. Today, she brings me flowers from our garden in Gerlach. Photographing flowers is a weekly practice.
I have always been intrigued by the anthropomorphic imagery that appears in these photographs.
In total, there will be 75 photographs from three bodies of work that will join Crimson’s incredible Endings assemblages. Our exhibition, Beauty & The Beasties, is a first for us and nearly 30 years in the making.
