Will Roger

I started working in photography in 1970 at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). Prior to that my education included a degree in analytical chemistry. The subject of photo-chemistry first attracted me to the medium, which proved to be my bridge between science and art. I served almost 20 years at RIT, working variously as a photo chemist, administrator, associate professor and assistant director. Always a student, I acquired subsequent degrees in both Art and Education. In 1991, I moved to California to begin a career as a portrait artist. Soon thereafter, the digital camera became mainstream and put many traditional photographers out of business, including me. Through one of the original organizers - Crimson Rose- (now my life partner), I got involved with the Burning Man Project in 1994. In 1997 I became one of the founders of Black Rock City LLC, which produces the annual Burning Man Event on the Black Rock Desert in Northern Nevada. Through this activity, I developed a heartfelt relationship with the High Desert, and now split my time between the San Francisco Bay Area and the Black Rock Desert region. I continue to photograph flowers (digitally) and once a year take aerial images of Black Rock City.
